I had booked for my first trip to Thailand in March this year. After the great tragedy there was some initial doubt as to whether the hotel would still be there and if it would be reasonable to come to a place to enjoy oneself which had just gone through such an event. Having visited this website frequently in the days since the 26th I find that not only is the hotel we have booked untouched but also that the people would welcome visitors. It has also given me an unshakeable reason not to cancel the trip as to do so would make me feel I was letting down the people of Thailand and Phuket in particular. Thanks for the assistance you have given to many thousands of people throughout the world.

I visited phuket for the first time in june 2004 with my partner and family. I absolutly loved it there, we stayed in patong at Merlin Beach Resort and it was marvellous! My partner and I had decided to go back in Septemeber and when the tsunami hit and we saw the devistating pics of the beach and place we were at only 6 months ago we thought against it. After reading the updates and seeing the pictures on this web site, we have made up our minds, there is no way we couldnt not go back. The people were amazing and hospitable when were there, now its our turn to help them out but being the simple tourist. Patong I cant wait to get back there!

We were in Karon Beach staying at the Thavorn Palm Beach hotel before, during and after the tsunami.
The hotel staff were exceptional in dealing with the tradgedy especially Matthew the general manager.
No reason NOT to go to Phuket as the Thai people are so proud of their country and business that they have done everything possible to get back to normaility.
Phuket needs you now more than ever, so get back there and help make Phuket stay paradise on earth.

Very first. Thank you very much for beutyfull photos and very nice pages. These pages helped us to decide what to do in March. We had booked holiday to Khao Lak. First we thought that how could we go to Thailand ?!? after this terrible accedent. But after few days days we decided, that the best way to help the local people is to travel to South-Thailand. So now we have two weeks holiday in Kata Beach in March. We really are looking for to see all your beutyfull places "in a live".

My family and I spent two weeks at the Burasari Resort at Patong Beach in October 2004. Had the best holiday ever! Very sad to see the destruction and death but great to see the Thai spirit prevailing. Have followed this site since the Tsunami. My son Jason and daughter Jessica are very concerned about a particular local called "Jack". He was involved with jetski's and the parasailing operations directly in front of the Ocean Plaza. If possible could you take more pictures of some of the beach locals. Thanks for a great site.

My heart and prayers go out to the people who have been affected by this Tsunami. It has been amazing seeing the way the world has pulled together to offer support to the Countries affected. I know in Australia, events have been held such as concerts, cricket matches etc, and it has had a wonderful response by the Australian public. There are no stores that you walk into here that don't have some type of ability for you to make a donation.
I was wondering if anyone has any information, pictures would be great - on the Thavorn Beach Village? My fiance and I are staying there for our honeymoon in April 05, and can't wait. It would be great to have some honest information and even better to have some pictures, to see what it is like.

Thanks,

Hi
I am very grateful to you for all the photos you have shown since the Tsumami. I and my husband have had three wonderful holidays in Phuket, the most recent being in July 2004. On a previous visit we got to know a lady called Ju and her family, she ran a restaurant called 'Pop no 1'. That had closed down and she had moved further along the road, I do not remember the name of the new restaurant. Ju was on holiday in Norway when we visited but we spoke to her Mother and her niece.
We would be really happy if you could give us any news of the family.
We understand you are very busy at this time and will understand if you are unable to reply.
We look forward to visiting Phuket again in the future.
Best wishes

It was the most beautiful place we've ever seen. It made me want to come back and live in Thailand. It's so sad what happened there especially to the people that lost their lives. You guys did a wonderful job cleaning up. We'll be back to visit this beautiful place. We hope every else will too. It's a way to help support the fine friendly people of this area.

Our thoughts are with all the wonderful people of Phuket. We spent time at the Holiday Inn - Busakorn Wing in September 04 and will never forget the hospitality offered. We hope that all the staff are safe and also wonder about the safety of the beach traders (Jane & the parasail boys) and all the others who pampered us. We will be back next year with friends. Keep up the good work. The recovery to date is amazing.

I was so happy to see this website promoting a different side of events since the tsunami. We have seen enough tragedy and whilst people are still in our thoughts and hearts, we must look forward. I've got many friends from southern Thailand whom I met whilst diving on Koh Phi Phi and they are now reliant on people coming back! My thanks to all of those who have helped with time, money, love and kindness - you are the greatest!

Thank you for a really great web site with a superb documentation about the evolution of the cleaning and the reparations. We have been ten times in Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Khao Lak, but not since 2001; so we know all these places very well and suffered so much with all the Thai people after that enormous tragedy. So we click on this site every day and are happy to see that there is a good hope for the future of Phuket, with all these amazing people who are working so hard for creating again that paradise.
Good luck to you all and thanks again for the photos! Chok dee kha!

Shortly before the tsunami hit, we came back from Patong. She was living with her male friend from switzerland in a guest house close to the beach area, who was also there, when the tsunami hit. I would appreciate a message very much, because I cant stop thinking of them. Kop kun ka!

Good to see Patong beach getting back together again. Thank you for the photographs. Does anyone have any information about a young lady named Pensee Bansan, nickname Lek? A petite Thai lady in her her thirties. Lek and her family work on a small area of Patong beach opposite the Ocean Department Store and Kodak shop. I have tried to phone them but cannot get through. They live near the temple on Prabaramee road. Lek and her family have always been very kind to me when I have taken holidays at Patong. She and her various aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews are on the beach every day. If you have any news of them please get in touch with me. I hope to return to Patong soon.
