Hi to all in Patong. My husband and I enjoyed our first wedding anniversary
in mid October 2004 at the Merlin Beach Resort, Patong. I have seen the pictures
on the web, but was wondering if there are any more of the resort itself, the
rooms, the amazing reception area, the pools etc etc. We were devestated when
we heard the news and our hearts go out to all involved, especially the Thai
people who were more than helpful when we visited, such kind natured people,
always happy and so friendly. We wish you all well in your recovery.

Dear friends in Phuket,
Me and my friend have spent every year of the last 10 years in Thailand. Many
times in Phuket and last time in November 2004. We stayed at Holiday Inn, ate
at Da Maurizio, in soi wattana (Lair Lay Tong, and we are very disturbed to
have seen the destruction of these places. We sincerely hope that no one was
killed or hurt although it looks very unlikely. Is it possible to inform us
on these places.
Otherwise we are to see that your wonderful island is coming back to life again,
although it must be hard. We will not let you down and will definitely come
back to this wonderful place.
All the best wishes....

I was in bed on 26/12/04 at Thai Friend Hotel on Soi Sawadirak, only 75 metres
from the beach when the waves struck. Fortunately, I was not injured, although
my hotel was badly hit. After helping with the clear up for 2 days, the distress
of what happened forced me to return to England 2 weeks earlier than I anticipated.
I still have friends there and I receive daily reports about life in Patong now. Seeing your photos are a great comfort to me, as the clear up is amazing compared with the day it happened.
I encourage all tourists to return to Patong, as it is a wonderful place to be. The Thai people are fantastic and need the support of the tourist dollar, so I hope to return as soon as possible to say my "thank you" for all their efforts in trying to restore a level of normalcy.
No one who was there on 26/12/04 will ever forget what happened at 10am, but we can support the rebuilding of a beautiful island.

My concern now is for some locals which I've known during my stay. I'm not sure
if they're hurt in anyway. I remembered there's a nice lady named Kim, she works
for a Swiss restaurant near South Sea Karon Hotel. I like to see more pics of
that area & the hotel too! Thanks very much for all your effort to let us
see the latest update of phuket everyday. I wish everyone in the island with
good health. As for those who are there to help with the rescuse, your effort
has been acknowledge. Thanks for restoring PHUKET looks & life back to before!

First of all THANK YOU wonderful people of Thailand for making our holiday such a great experience, despite your tragedy. Your resilience and kindness know no limits and the world should know it.
Despite TV's sensationalist reports we decided to come over to Laguna Resort on a beautiful Bang Tao beach! It was fantastic, the golden sands, blue waters and elephants on the beach! Any damage has been repaired or was in the process of repair. I urge everyone to go and enjoy the beautiful land of Thailand and its most generous, kind and smiley people. They will make your experience unforgettable. And while you there a visit to the Lotus Restaurant on the beach is a MUST!
