Spent about 11 days in Phuket a couple of years ago, stayed at the Ex-Pat a
few blocks from the beach, Met new friends at the U-2 bar,(Is it still there?)
one who gave me a tour including the amazing view at Lam Phrom Tep, (imagine
finding a local in America caring enough to show a stranger around)having a
cold one, taking in that view of the windswept hills, down to the azure blue
waters, I realized I could spend the rest of my days right there, and be perfectly
content. I cannot describe what it was to see the destruction of this true paradise,

My friends, I for one will be back. You do your country a true service. Thank-you!

I also want to thank you for taking daily photographs of the recovery phases.
I luckily missed the Tsunami in Phuket by two weeks. However, I made friends

reach them via email and phone but to this point my attempts have proven unsuccessful.
I saw some pictures from the general area and it looks like a lot of progress
has been made, but I'm not sure how this affected the people who were working
in the area. If by chance you go by "You Bar", I have a friend named
Lek who works there and was curious about her safety. It's a small bar located

people and we are deeply saddened by this tragedy - but we are returning in

damaged. Is it possible for your to take a photo of what we consider "our

Thank you for your photos of the "Clean Up" We wish we could be there
to help. Every one is doing a wonderful job.
We are all wondering about the people who work along the beach in Patong. In
particular a Tuk Tuk Driver who we gave an Aussie name "Dougie" He
drives a blue Tuk Tuk with a rather loud stereo system. From memory it has yellow
trim. Dougie used to park oposite the beach around where the bus leaves from.
He was very kind to us while we were in Phuket and we are concerned for his
safety and needs.
Dougie also had the name Michael Schumaker written on his Tuk Tuk. We would
really appreciate it if we could get any information on him and the other people
who lived and worked in Patong. We pray for them and hope that all the people
of Phuket have the strength and courage to go on. No doubt these wonderful people

I was wondering if there are any photos of Kamala Beach resort, we stayed there
on a visit to our sons wedding in Thailand. I am doing at program at my local
Rotary Club in aweek about the beach and THe Thai culture. Our local club just
donated a $1000.00 to the Rotart of India for relief. I have before pictures
from my trip but can find no pictures after the wave. I stand in complete awe
of people so willing to pick up the pieces after this terrible disaster. I also
wondered if any of the elephants from Fanta Sea were being used for work efforts.
Thank You for your time I look at your photos daily they should give inspiration
to us all. Virginia Paterson, 2611 St Clair Avenue East LIverpool, Ohio 43920

cried many tears during this week, not only for the people who lost their lives
and their relatives, but also for the ones who lost everything. Their homes,
their future, their past....I look at the pictures everyday here to seehow wonderful
your country is, all the rebuilding and the most important, the will to keep
on fighting in this sometimes so tragic life. Lots of love from Sweden.

Hello--
I live in NYC and feel deeply saddened by what has happened in your region.
My boyfriend and both volunteered after 9-11 and it helped us both recover from
despair. This tragedy is far worse than any world event in my adult lifetime
and I feel that I'd love to help in the recovery. I am looking for groups leaving
NYC who are in need of able-bodied volunteers to aid during these times. If
you know of any such organization, can you please forward the information to
me? Or perhaps your organization has a team looking.
Please let me know.
My best regards,

Thank you for all the beautiful pictures, taken every day, showing the efficient
and quickly the cleaning and rebuilding process. Me and my wife are going til
Phuket (Patong) as planned, on 23rd of January, maybe 1st of Februare (because
Patong Beach Hotel is still closed), and we look forward to help people where
ever we can. However, we are very concerned about all our thai friends, and
hope to find them alive. We wonder if all the beach works had survived, but
we don't believe that...
Today the 5th of January, I expected to see a lot of pictures from the Patong
Cleaning Event, which was anounced. Maybe these pictures will come tomorrow?
Okay, keep up the good work!

an admirable effort to clean up the damage and keep the economy going. Do you
have any information on the conditions at the Similan Islands? Have the reefs
been damaged? Is there still animal life around the reefs? Is the water clean?
Is there debris from the tsunami (and animal remains?) I know the dive shops
